The Two Types of Data Recovery

When your hard drive crashes, you might panic and try to fix the situation as quickly as possible. However it is more important to do it right instead of doing it quickly. This is especially true if you have business files on your computer or important financial information that you need to recover. There are a couple of types of data recovery that you can try. You could use software specially designed for that purpose or you could hire a professional who has been trained in hard drive recovery.

The hard drive recovery specialist

A hard drive specialist is a computer technician that has been specifically trained to read hardware and find out certain information such as what happened to cause it to fail so it can be repaired. Most businesses will have a person like this on staff. For your personal computer you will either have to take your computer to the shop or call the specialist out to your home. Before you do so, make sure the person you select is well qualified. It may also pay to call around and get quotes so you can compare prices.

Hard drive recovery software

Instead of using a specialist for hard drive data recovery, you may want to use data recovery software. You will need to install it ahead of time, before your hard drive begins to malfunction. This software will keep logs of the activity on your hard drive so if there is a malfunction, the software will be able to restore your files. It is important that you understand how to use the software before your drive crashes so that you don’t make the problem worse. Still, if there is a serious failure such as might happen with a fire or water damage, recovery may not be possible so it is always a wise idea to back up your files on a regular basis so as a last resort you will always be able to get your older files out of storage.

Hard drive recovery can work on all kinds of damage. Just because your computer was in a fire or flood doesn’t necessarily mean that all the files were lost. In some cases, even serious damage such as that can be overcome and files recovered. Of course less serious problems such as accidentally deleting files and failure caused by viruses can also be fixed with a data recovery program no matter if it is software or a specialist.
