If you hard drive is in the process of failing it might still be possible to use software to correct the problem but it is advised to do so only if you are sure of what you are doing. The reason for this is that if you continue to use your computer and write to your hard drive when it is malfunctioning, then you may permanently lose your files or make the damage worse than it was to start with.

To be on the safe side, when you have trouble with your hard drive, the best thing to do is to take it to a computer repair shop where a technician trained in hard drive recovery can fix it for you. In most cases, a qualified person will be able to restore your hard drive and recover your damaged and lost files. It is even possible in some instances where there is extensive fire or water damage to the computer. It is always worth trying to restore your files if they are important to you.
